![]() ![]() You may find another cartridge that seems more fitting for the outcome you’re looking for, but this is an excellent cartridge for anyone looking to improve the quality of their turntable’s sound quality. Overall, you should consider these potential cons, but none seem to be a deal-breaker for those with first-hand experience with the cartridge. It seems that the Nagaoka MP-200 has won the hearts of nearly everyone who has had the opportunity to put the cartridge to the test. Some people think the cartridge doesn’t help with bass as much as some other cartridges, and if you need a replacement stylus, that can be an expensive fix. It may provide substantial performance quality, but it still won’t track as well as a line contact. Most who bought the cartridge seem to be happy with the product, but its cost is enough for some individuals to look the other way. Of course, if you’re looking for high-quality cartridge upgrades, you can expect to pay a premium price. Regarding the specifications of the cartridge, it offers a channel separation of 25dB(1KHz), and its channel balance is 1.5dB or less. Many turntable enthusiasts prefer this cartridge over many other MM cartridges, and it’s bound to deliver an unwavering performance for years to come. You’ll notice excellent detail in the audio quality, and it has no trouble covering low and high-frequency ranges. ![]() It’s an MM cartridge with a boron cantilever and offers a stylus pressure of 1.5 to 2.0g for an accurate read. Your speakers, tonearm, and phono preamp all have an effect on the performance of a turntable cartridge. It’s important to remember the true performance of phono cartridges relies on other parts as well. It only weighs 6.5g, so it won’t drag by any means, and Nagaoka is known for its reliable craftsmanship. Many users of this cartridge feel like it breathes new life into older records, and it comes with a build quality that’s meant to last. It provides a fast response time, warm sound, and smooth functionality that’s honestly quite impressive. Although there are many cartridges that can deliver a satisfactory experience, the Nagaoka MP-200 is our top pick as the best turntable cartridge for numerous reasons. ![]() ![]() The extra length will push the offcuts past the blade where they’ll sit safely until you’re done. The easy fix is to outfit your miter gauge with an auxiliary fence that extends a few inches beyond the blade (Photo D). The problem is that the “keeper” pieces–which are actually the offcuts in this case–tend to dangerously cluster around the running blade, getting thrown when they wander into it. ![]() It’s a normal enough tablesaw operation to crosscut small pieces from the end of a stick guided by a miter gauge. In my experience, it’s the quickest, safest way to rip most small pieces. This tool is a highly configurable pusher with a non-skid bottom, an adjustable center leg to keep the offcut from straying after the cut, and an outer leg that can be adjusted up or down to create solid, level footing on the workpiece and saw table. If you often work with small pieces, you may want to invest in a GRR-Ripper (Photo C). If you need to rip short multiples using a sled, you can set up the cuts with a stopblock and spacer, as shown on page 30. The drawback of using a sled is that making multiples of identical width isn’t as easy as feeding against a rip fence because you don’t have the immediate registration that the fence offers. To ensure a ripping of consistent width, make sure that the ends of the board are square to its edges. If you’re ripping pieces from a wide board, it’s safer to use a crosscut sled, as shown in Photo B. It’s best to outfit your saw with a zero-clearance throat plate to provide maximum bearing for very narrow pieces. You can glue a strip of fine sandpaper to the sole to improve friction and aid in holding the piece sideways against the fence. It is certainly feasible to rip short pieces in the regular fashion–just make sure to use a shoe-style pushstick with a straight sole to maintain firm contact along the length of the workpiece (Photo A). However, sometimes only short pieces of your chosen wood are available. It’s usually best to crosscut shorter pieces from a long ripping. ![]() Ripping pieces from a short length of wood on the tablesaw can be dicey because the wood may be completely or nearly separated before it reaches the splitter, inviting kickback. Senior editor Paul Anthony is the author of Taunton’s Complete Illustrated Guide to Tablesaws (Taunton Press). But not to worry here, I’ll show you how to safely and securely handle tiny tablesaw tasks and chop saw challenges with aplomb (instead of with an axe). When you want to cut identical multiples, the problem is compounded by the fact that stopblocks may sit too close to the blade for comfort and workpieces pinched between the blade and stopblock may kick back after the cut. The difficulty in cutting small-scale parts with large-scale tools is securely holding the parts while keeping your fingers a safe distance from the blade. In fact, if you’re not deft with handsaws, planes, and chisels, a stationary saw will quickly yield the kind of clean, square cuts that you’re unlikely to accomplish by hand. ![]() However, if used correctly, a large power saw provides a perfectly good approach to cutting small parts. That’s one reason we so often reach for hand tools that are better sized for the job. The blade carries an electrical signal that is continuously monitored by the safety system.Using a tablesaw or power mitersaw to cut small parts may seem akin to chopping a twig with an axe. (In case you’re wondering, there’s nothing gory at that link - just a bunch of photos of nicked fingers and thumbs.) The SawStop has already saved hundreds of fingers from being severed in table saw accidents. ![]() I just think it’s just a brilliant invention that will save thousands upon thousands of fingers from being sawed off. I am not a dealer, nor am I endorsing this product. It’s a no-brainer, although it is expensive. I do not own a table saw or cabinet saw, but if I did, this would definitely be my pick. That means no more severed fingers from using table saws! Incredibly, the SawStop can tell the difference between your finger and the wood. About 3,000 people cut their fingers off that’s about 10 a day. the hot dog test), I felt compelled to spread the word in the name of safe woodworking in the homebuilding industry, and for homeowners alike.Īs mentioned by the SawStop’s inventor Steve Gass in this video, there are about 60,000 medically treated hand saw accidents every year. But then this bubble shows up and throws everything into chaos. Ten seems like way too much, but if all of them are normally unplayable it could be excused I suppose. The case of Nexus shows that one of these cards doesn't even have to be good - just have the outside possibility of maybe, possibly being good for a single week - and that can be enough to break everything. This is definitely a bubble - stores have stacks of these things ready to give away to anyone who buys a box and a forty dollar off coupon on a booster box just doesn't make for a tenable economy - but it's an absolutely terrible time for a bubble in the price of a standard playable card because the pro tour is tomorrow.Īnyway, some serious vindication for everyone who's ever said that standard-legal cards outside of boosters was a bad plan that WotC would eventually fuck up. Meanwhile, the IRL price of the card keeps trending up with online listings topping $40 this morning. The price of the card spiked at over $60 in the online market yesterday, and WotC emergency announced that they'd drastically increase the drop rate in chests for the next 2 weeks in an attempt to create a real supply. Because the promo standard cards released outside of packs don't have an easy way to make it on to MTGO other than through random rewards in treasure chests the supply of Nexus of Fate online is minimal. Yesterday evening I saw this tweet floating to the top of reddit. I was impressed and thought "hey, that looks fun, maybe I'll build that deck". But my opponent here certainly used it to good effect, taking *full* advantage of the card's speed to put me in a really bad spot. ![]() It looks exactly like what shitty promos usually look like. I'd passed over the card in the M19 spoiler because, well, "take an extra turn" effects generally need to be 5-mana to be even hypothetically standard playable. I was playing Arena the other day and got my ass kicked by a card I'd never seen cast before - Nexus of Fate. It's not a huge sticking point at any given time in standard there are ~10 cards from different sources which are legal and not available in boosters, but these cards are always developed for casual play: explicitly too weak to possibly effect the format. So WotC also does the "you can only get this card if you buy a box" thing and occasionally catch some flak for it as well. (note: the cost of a FoW box in USD is somewhere near $80 I think, for 360 cards? More expensive elsewhere though.) This "reward" is being panned by pretty much the entire community, in addition to the chance of getting a ruler in a box being lowered from 1 per box to 70% chance of a box having one. Spinning Witch is not found in booster packs of any set, but rather is essentially a "reward" for people who buy three boxes. ![]() ![]() ![]() Mikki is a settled-in-her-routines divorced mother of two, happily a mom, gift-shop owner, and co-parent with her ex-husband, Perry. Susan (a shrink with a lot of time on her hands) says to Tom, "Will you stay in New York and tell me all you know?" and he does, for nearly 600 mostly-bloated pages of flashbacks depicting The Family Wingo of swampy Colleton County: a beautiful mother, a brutal shrimper father (the Great Santini alive and kicking), and Tom and Savannah's much-admired older brother, Luke. Savannah, it turns out, is catatonic, and before the suicide attempt had completely assumed the identity of a dead friend-the implication being that she couldn't stand being a Wingo anymore. ![]() This aligns with the concept of people-oriented streets, the urban planning practice of making roads safe to cross and filled with amenities people need (restaurants, banks, salons etc.). Those in cars spent more money on one trip but frequented downtown less. ![]() A 2008 report of San Francisco’s downtown found that public transit users and walkers spent less on each trip downtown but made more frequent trips, which meant they spent more money overall. ![]() People also tend to spend more money in walkable cities, stimulating the local economy. When a resident walks, the cost to the city is a penny. If a resident decides to drive, it costs the city $9.20 in services like policing and ambulances. According to Speck’s book, if a resident takes a bus ride, it may cost them $1 but costs the city $1.50 in bus operation. Walking also costs the city very little, unlike cars and even public transit. If cities seem less automobile-dependent, chances are they are more appealing to a range of ages. And according to the National Association of Realtors, 62 percent of millennials prefer to live in a walkable community where a car is optional. According to the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning, 63 percent of millennials and 42 percent of boomers would like to live in a place where they don’t need a car. Investing in walkable cities, whether through allocating funds to repaint pedestrian walkways or building affordable housing close to downtowns, also attracts diverse populations and creates jobs. According to a 2009 study, each additional walk score point resulted in home values increasing between $500 and $3,000. Cities with high walk scores also have high property values. The idea is marketed based on a few big benefits, according to Speck’s book, one of them being economics. Walkability is great for the economyĪmerican city planner Jeff Speck has been advocating for walkability for the past 25 years, and in his new book, Walkability City Rules: 101 Steps to Making Better Places, he carefully outlines how to “sell” walkability and then implement it. But a city’s walkability is dynamic and can be improved with people-oriented city planning, which will benefit the local economy and make societies more equitable. Walkability is treated as a static part of a city your city is either walkable or not. The average walk score of all American cities with a population of over 200,000 is 49. On Walk Score’s one to 100 scale that evaluates cities with a population of 200,000 or more, New York City is the most walkable city in the country with a score of 89, and Fayetteville, North Carolina, is the least walkable with a score of 29. A city’s walkability, per Walk Score, is determined by analyzing how many errands can be done without a car, and cities with the highest scores (like Boston, New York, and San Francisco) often come with an incredibly steep cost of living. ![]() You’ve probably seen the term “walkability” thrown around in relation to cities, neighborhoods, and even apartments. ![]() ![]() ![]() If you click the button "Check", it will print whether the label widget exists or not.
